“If you are allergic to a thing, it is best not to put that thing in your mouth, particularly if the thing is cats.” ~Lemony Snicket

Late in my life (I think it was at 19) I discovered that I was allergic to cats. Somehow, I had gone my entire life up to this point never being in the presence as a cat, or even in a home that had one! (Now that I think about it, I avoided this by telling people I was allergic . . . so it’s nice that it turned out to be true). Pretty impressive . . . Although I also didn’t get any seasonal allergies until I hit 22, so maybe my allergies just manifest themselves late in life.

I bring this up, because today I was (sort of) in the presence of three kittens!

As I was at my cousin’s house, I suddenly saw my cousin Jason dash past the window. When I went outside to see why he was running about, he had a kitten in his hands! He then went on the catch all 3 of the kittens in the yard (1 escaped). It was hilarious.

The first kitten he caught, he found a plastic tub to put it in, but then it jumped right back out! So, he got Kayli to hold the lid down as he rounded up the kittens. Kayli had earlier been hissed at by the kittens’ mother (at this point we had no idea where she was) so she was pretty scared that the mom would come attack her. Here is her scared face:

Scared Kayli

Chase and Audrey really wanted to go outside and play with the kittens, here is Chase looking longingly outside:

In order to keep Chase and Audrey inside, we kept telling them how scary the cats were (and they were! One clawed (or maybe it bit) through Jason’s glove!). In the end, Audrey was so convinced she started to tell me she didn’t want to go outside even when Jason had them caged up because she was scared of cats! This was a big change from earlier in the evening when she told me I shouldn’t be scared of the cats because they were nice cats!

Chase and Audrey did end up outside once Jason had caged two of the cats (one of them escaped) and Chase loved them. Of course, they were still trying to attack, so every time Chase got kind of close to the cage Jason would yell, and Kayli and I would jump because we thought the mother cat was coming to attack! (It might have mostly been me jumping, haha).

Cats

Other events of the evening include dyeing Beth’s hair for the first time (it looks almost exactly the same, because she dyed it a dark blonde, and she was already a dark blond), and Chase so tired that he fell asleep at the dinner table.

Once I got home, I was greeted at the door by a toad who wouldn’t move (I tried chasing it away so I could get through without walking past it) so I called Glenn to come open the door so I could hurriedly jump through it. =)

That is so awesome. I'm glad you documented it all. We are not keeping the cats we are just letting the kids play with them for a bit.
